This is very much a film about men.
Although there are several (named) female characters, they all take a back seat to the men in the story. There is only one single scene in which two women actually talk to each other: towards the end of the film, Mark Felt's wife and daughter have a brief conversation... about him.
Apart from those two characters, every other woman in the story is a secretary (and, in one scene, a waitress - who serves them pie without uttering a word).
