The trailer itself shows Lady Bird and her mom Marion talk about the daughter's future plans, going to college, leaving Sacramento....

This movie almost passes the Reverse Bechdel Test. There is only one scene where two male characters talk about something other than one of the female characters.

I agree with the rating; this film captures a strange but very true relationship between Lady Bird and her mother. It's a true coming-of-age film that doesn't need to be necessarily romantic.

This film passes the test because Lady Bird talks to her mom and her friends about things other than men.

It most certainly passes the Bechdel Test. This story is about Lady Bird or Christine living her last year in high school. It shows her relationships with the important people in her life, many of whom are women. Along with her close friends and family, many side characters are women too. This movie totally champions women. It explores a complicated mother-daughter relationship, along with her making new friends, while losing/getting back old friendships. The movie passes the test just from the first scene alone where Lady bird and her mother are on a road trip visiting colleges. A wonderful movie for sure.

How in the world did I raise such a snob?

LADY BIRD
Or at least Connecticut or New Hampshire. Where writers live in the woods.

MARION
You couldn’t get into those schools anyway.

LADY BIRD
Mom!

Lady Bird passes the Bechdel test because Lady Bird and her mother, Marion, have some conversations about going to college and about money.

This film passes the Bechdel Test with flying colors. Most of the conversations between Christine and Marion are about money or college. When Christine gets suspended from school for making an inappropriate joke at the pro-life assembly, the next scene is her and her mom arguing in the living room about how her suspension is going to effect her future, and about how they spend money on the private catholic school so she can be safer than going to public school (you know, because Miguel saw someone get stabbed when he went to the public school).

31 minutes into the film Lady Bird is smoking a clove cigarette with her friend and discussing Lady Bird's Mother.

"Lady Bird" is directed by Greta Gerwig and produced by Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, and Evelyn O’Neil. The protagonists are Lady Bird (Christine) and Marion. Lady Bird is the daughter of Marion and struggles with her self-image and relationship with her mother. While Marion, on the other hand, struggles with parenting (how to act around her daughter), and financial situation. Typical tropes in this film are prom and first sexual experience. Overall, this does pass the Bechdel Test. For example, at the 31:50 mark, Shelly (Miguel’s girlfriend) tells Lady Bird that her mother is big-hearted.

This movie involves many female characters discussing things other than men. It's a beautiful coming of age story and one of the more realistic highschool movies. It does a great job of showing the difficulty of finding yourself while also seeking the approvals of others and the difficult transition from the luxury of dependency that comes with high school to the abrupt independence that comes with college.

Right at the beginning of the movie, we are shown Lady Bird and her mom in the car having a conversation about Lady Bird, her education, future, and personality. The whole conversation was just based about Lady Bird an her college education.

Lady bird passes all three of the Bechdel tests. There are several named women in the movie who interact with each other on different levels. While some are more surface level than others, Christine “Lady Bird”, Marion, Juila, Jenna and Shelley all talk to one another about something other than a man. Christine and her mom often talk about life, education and mental health.
