Firstly, talking about the no. of female characters in the movie, It has 3 main female characters. While, the movie does have additional female characters (like the Women in the village, the other female sportswomen in the National Academy & Ofcourse the Sportswomen with whom the lead Geeta Phogat fights) supporting the story.

-Hence, this satisfies the 1st condition.

Secondly, talking about their unique character definition(Name) & role. Name wise, there are only 2 whose names were defined or mentioned during the movie which is Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat, while their mother Daya Kaur is no where mentioned distinctly by her name. However, each of their character had a unique role to play.

To support this claim,

The lead Geeta and Babita were called by their parents several times and were also mentioned during the wrestling matches. While, their mother wasn’t mentioned as uniquely as their daughters in the movie.

-For this reason it satisfies the 2nd condition.

Thirdly, each of the above mentioned characters do talk to each other and they do talk about the reasons other than talking about a man.

To support this claim,

First, The scene where the mother(Daya) talk with their daughters(Geeta & Babita) about the fatigue of exercise.
Second, the scene between Geeta & Babita where Babita tries to encourage Geeta by stating that if not Geeta there cannot be another women in INDIA who can compete at the International stage. (There are quite a lot to support this but have stated these ones)
-Henceforth, it satisfies 3rd condition.

Therefore, DANGAL passes the BECHDEL Test

The review says it satisfies all 3 requirements but the rating itself says it only has 2 out of 3??? I was especially surprised because this is one of the most progressive bollywood movies Ive seen in years.

Should be 3/3 based on Geeta and Babita's many wrestling-centric exchanges that don't mention their father. The spirit of this movie is also quite empowering for women even if it is still centered around a man's life (Mahavir, their father). It has the added appeal of being a true story of a woman who inspired a less than supportive nation. Please change the rating!

The movie passes all three. The girls are named, and they discuss wrestling, training facilities, and other activities. Change the rating - this was an excellent movie with a great message.
