Jyn, Mon Mothma, and Lyra are mentioned by name.

Lyra talks to Jyn about the force and where to hide at the beginning of the film.

Jyn and Mon Mothma discuss the Empire and what they can do to stop it.

It barely passes. The discussions are really short. The movie is a sausage party.

Technical pass for this one.

Unfortunately, as evidenced above, it BARELY passes the test in terms of actual screentime.

Nearly all of the active characters are men. Mon Mothma is in it for a relatively short amount of time. And Lyra dies quickly, invoking the tired (and borderline misogynistic) "dead mother" trope.

What, they couldn't have just flipped the sex of ONE of that ensemble cast that goes along with her on the important journey? This is what happens when you have MEN writing a "STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER" film. Tokenism. So obvious.

Incredibly disappointing film for women, and the early trailers were fembait. Disney really did a number on this one.

Though it is true that the dialogues between female characters are extremely short this does not change the fact that they are there. the bechdel test was alwasys a technical test. what it never was about was feminism. It is like saying a movie "barely" passes the two hours because it's 122 minutes long. It either passes or it doesn't, noone would try to discuss that. If you didn't like the movie that's your own business.

I agree with Victoria. Only I don't think the one tiny female to female conversation where there are men just over the hillside, the implied subject of the conversation, and occasionally in the background depending on how they pan the shot make the conversation enough to pass the test.

I don't think this test passes the rating.

1. Lyra was the one who did the talking (I think Jyn only said one or two words).

2. Jyn wasn't talking directly to Mon Mothma. She had to convince all the members in the council, which were dominantly male. Bodhi also threw his input in to further convince Mothma and the council.

Let's see:
- Lyra is pretty much a trope (the dead beloved mother/wife) that serves not only Jyn's arc, but Galen's as well.

- Mon Mothma has only two scenes with Jyn, and her interaction with her is barebones ("We need your help", "I'm sorry, but we can't do anything else").

- Jyn plays is pretty much a supporting character, taking (both figuratively and literally) a backseat role once Cassian starts his mission. Jyn always gets into trouble, and it's up to Cassian or anyone else to save her butt.
